The Practice Statistics Logbook (PSL) is a FREE Microsoft Excel Worksheet based logbook designed with the peri-operative practitioner in mind. It is intended to be used as a tool to find shortfalls in an ODP's practice by measuring statistics of practice over a period of time which will allow the practitioner to recognise areas that need adjustment in order for the practitioner to improve patient care delivery. Accompanied by a summary of your PSL use stating how the PSL has improved practice and service delivery should meet with the Continuing Professional Development standards set by the Health Professions Council (HPC). The PSL is the result of nearly three years research and development, not only to meet with the requirement s of the HPC but also to comply with the much discussed Data Protection Act 1998 in order to alleviate the Practitioner from having to notify as a data controller.
'A PSL that contains practice-based information (rather than personal patient information) in order to gain real time [statistical] data to find any shortfalls in an individuals practice can serve as a useful tool.' (Gray 2007a)
'A PSL summary is the interpretation and transcription of the statistical information contained within the PSL into plain language, so that the PSL compiler or the CPD auditor can understand it.' (Gray 2007b)
